Take these...

Patients often ask...do I need to take supplements if I eat clean?  The answer is "yes".  The soil that was once rich and fertile and had layers and layers of nutrients is a thing of the past.  Our soil is depleted and lacks the minerals that the body needs to operate at optimum level.

So, at minimum, please take:
1. A probiotic.  We recommend Orthobiotic from Orthomolecular.  Take 1/day in the a.m. with your first 8 oz. glass of water on an empty stomach.

2. Fish Oil.  Not just any fish oil.  The fish oil industry is very unregulated.  A lot of what is harvested can go rancid very easily.  It's best to not get it where they sell to the masses such as Sam's or Wal-mart.  We like Tuna Omega from Standard Process or Carlson's Norwegian Cod Liver Oil found in the refrigerated section in health food stores.

3. A digestive.  Our tummies need help digesting food, especially proteins and fats.  We need extra enzymes.  We like Zypan or Multizyme from Standard Process.  You can also do Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar before meals or add it to your water at any time of the day.  This can help with acid reflux and help keep your body alkaline.

4. A multivitamin.  We love Catalyn.  It's that all-inclusive vitamin that does all of the above!  Don't be misled by the low % DV.  The magic is in the whole foods.  Notice the Proprietary Blend section below.  Ask Dr. Wayne more about this...

Success Story: Swimming Again at Seventy

A 70-something male patient is able to swim again after a very long time.  He came in not wanting any chiropractic adjustment as he had previously had a negative experience.  Plus, he was very nervous to be manipulated because his L3-5 (lumbar spine) is fused.  Nevertheless, he was referred by an existing patient who trusted Dr. Wayne. Hesitantly, he agreed to get care.

For this patient to regain full function, Dr. Wayne strongly recommended chiropractic but with low force using a very specific impulse activator adjusting instrument .  The patient decided to give this very specific and gentle chiropractic technique a shot.

After just a few adjustments and some ear acupuncture, in order to encourage the ligaments surrounding the problem area to adjust to the new and corrected spinal position, this patient is able to swim again.  He is very encouraged and has new faith in chiropractic.

With each patient's success, Dr. Wayne is grateful for excellent mentors and effective tools to treat patients and for them to get their health and life back!

Why Get your Babies Adjusted? A Few FAQs For You

Week-old Molly Jo getting adjusted by her Mommy Mandy's chiropractor in TX

Last month, we have a friend in Texas who had a baby (#5!!) and posted on her Facebook status a week post-delivery that she and her hubby got their new baby girl adjusted by their chiropractor.  I was very amused with the ensuing lively discussion among her friends and blog followers in response to this. It was amazing the lack of knowledge that surrounds this topic.  But, I know that this lack of knowledge is the fault of our profession for not properly educating, not to mention big pharma and media for ahem, withholding valuable information about the huge benefits of early chiropractic adjustments. It spurred me to "interview" Dr. Wayne with some of the FAQs that I'm sure many responsible parents have:

Q: Why adjust a new baby?
A: Delivery is often the first trauma a new baby suffers.  The cervical spine often gets malpositioned, especially during a rushed, hurried birthing process.

Q: What health benefits result from an infant adjustment?
A: Without an adjustment following delivery, a baby's nerve flow in his/her cervical spine gets compromised from the brain stem to the rest of the body.  Results from correcting this malposition are often very profound. Some of the health challenges that can be avoided are ear infections, digestive problems like constipation and reflux and breathing problems like asthma and allergies.

Q: How soon can the benefits be seen?
A: Immediately.  Babies don't have muscle calcifications, spurring and a lot of previous trauma like an adult.

Q: Is it safe?
A: Well, we will answer this by passing on some numbers.  Malpractice insurance companies do their homework and keep track of damages and lawsuits from practitioners treating infants and kiddos.  Dr. Wayne's malpractice insurance premium is under $1,000 per calendar year. Pediatricians pay on average $12,500 per year (modernmedicine.com) Obstetricians and gynecologists fork over premium rates per calendar year ranging from $85,000 to as much as $200,000, depending on the state.

Adrenal Health Talk Recap from Prairie Market

In case you weren't in the audience at Prairie Market last week, here are the notes that were handed out.  There was a great crowd...somewhere between 20 and 25 listening ears.  We are so tickled for this winning alliance with Prairie Market in Harrison, AR.

Adrenal Fatigue: An Epidemic in our Stressed-Out World

So what’s the big deal about the adrenal gland?
The adrenal gland helps you respond to stress & or changes in your environment

  • When this gland is fatigued due to ongoing stressors and pressures,
it leads to:
    1. High blood pressure
    2. Digestive disturbances
(Acid reflux, IBS, gas & bloating)
    1. Weight gain – especially around the midsection
    2. Joint pain
    3. Disrupted sleep
    4. Diminished sex drive and hormonal imbalance

  • Sleep wake cycle disruption:
- Cortisol must drop, melatonin must go up.  Many people have inverted day & night      chemistry
- Restoring the adrenal gland is essential to helping you be awake and alert during the day and unconscious at night.

  • Dr. Wayne’s adrenal health recommendations: clinical and do-it-yourself remedies:

1. Adrenal Supplement - Prairie Market has a good one.  Need to watch out for  adrenal supplements that have licorice if hypertension is a concern.

2. Acupuncture - Balance the meridians to right your world.

3. Chiropractic - Have sacrum and cervicals adjusted regularly.

4. Settle down for sleep. Lights Out, TV off, Shhhhhh!

5. Create peace for yourself - decide, forgive, etc.

Emilee's 35# Weight Loss Story

Remember Emilee? Look at her now! Doesn't she look GREAT? We have asked her to give us a progress report. Let's hear it from her:

"Today marks the 44th day I’ve been on our Shape ReClaimed program. In just under 7 weeks, I have lost nearly 35 pounds. My complexion is clear, I have tons of energy, I’m sleeping better, and my overall health has improved tremendously. My weight loss slowed after week 3, but with the help of Dr. Tompkins, we were able to make modifications to my program to help promote further success. It was during this time I learned the importance of not pushing my body too hard and following the advice of my doctor. After this realization I began shedding pounds once again. The weight loss was at a slower rate, but I continued losing size.

I’d like to say the program is the easiest thing in the world, but I will be the first to admit there have been challenging days and I have cheated a few times. These “cheats” halted my progress for a day or two, but I learned on these days how different I feel towards unhealthy foods. During Phase 1, my relationship with food has been altered considerably.  Eating high starch and sugar foods is simply not worth the negative effects it has on my body. The longer I stay on the program, the more I realize it is not necessarily to lose weight (although it is an awesome side effect), but rather maintain my health and the way I feel day in and day out. I am thrilled with the results I have had thus far, both mentally and physically, and I am looking forward to what the next few weeks have in store. Only 23 more pounds to go!

The Health Department's "Whoops" About Local Whooping Cough Outbreak

An interesting message came on the radio yesterday from the Taney County Department of Public Health.  I perked up my ears because it was announced that there were 4 cases of whooping cough (pertussis) in our local county over the last month.  The public health spokesman said that was a bit of a red flag.  (agreed)  Then she said the greatest prevention of whooping cough was vaccination…and that two of the cases were children who had not been vaccinated.  It’s what she didn’t say that got my attention.  If two children were not vaccinated, then implied in that statement is that two children were vaccinated…and they still got whooping cough.  I’m not writing this to stir up the vaccination controversy.  Vaccination is a very personal decision and not an uncomplicated one.  My point is this:  based on this little example…the vital lesson is that we all keep our immune system functioning at its optimum in order to keep threatening illnesses like this at bay.

So…as a good parent you ask "what do we do instead?" Here is what Dr. Wayne recommends:
 1. lets keep our children away from sugar & processed foods.  We can promote plenty of fresh fruits, veggies and good quality lean meat instead.  (Believe me…based on experience they really do get a taste for this).
2.lets make sure our children are getting regular chiropractic adjustments to ensure the brain is communicating with the body without any interference
 3. we can  restore balance by stimulating acupuncture alarm points  (can be done by hand instead of needles on little people).
